Six Snared in Mobile Phone Smuggling Ring at Winchester Prison

Hampshire Constabulary’s serious and organised crime unit has busted a mobile phone smuggling ring at HMP Winchester. Two inmates and four associates face charges for their role in sneaking contraband into the jail.

Six Charged, Court Date Set

All six suspects are set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 11. Here’s the rundown:

  • Rebecca Vaughan, 23, of Primrose Close, Chandlers Ford, charged with conspiracy to smuggle mobiles, facilitating criminal property, and possession of criminal property.
  • Danielle Carr, 29, of Hawkhill, Dibden, charged with conspiracy to smuggle mobiles and facilitating criminal property.
  • Rhonda Pack, 20, of Greenway Road, Gosport, charged with conspiracy to smuggle mobiles and smuggling Class C steroids into prison on January 11, 2016.

Crackdown on Prison Contraband

The arrests come as part of a major crackdown aiming to stamp out the flow of illegal items into prisons. Mobile phones and drugs like steroids pose serious risks to prison security and safety.

Investigators say this operation disrupts a well-organised network operating inside and outside the prison walls.
