Six Men Found Guilty of Murdering Teen in Bromley Park

Six men have been convicted over the brutal murder of 17-year-old Michael Jonas, who was lured to his death in a Bromley park in 2017. The chilling verdict comes after police cracked the case with CCTV footage and forensic evidence tying the gang to the fatal attack.

Justice for Michael Jonas After Years of Fight

All charges were initially dropped back in 2018, but detectives never gave up on Michael’s family. Their relentless efforts saw the case reopened and the killers finally brought to justice. The men convicted are Nyron Jean Baptiste, Divon Henry-Campbell, Jason Smith, Jamie Marshall, Ryan Girense Brown, and Sarraviho Smith.

They will be sentenced on Monday, 20 November. Each played a part in the savage, premeditated stabbing that ended Michael’s life.

Heartbreaking Details of the Attack

On 2 November 2017, police were called to Betts Park in Bromley after reports of a man found injured. They discovered Michael with multiple stab wounds. Despite the efforts of the London Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

CCTV showed Michael being approached by five men on Anerley Road before they entered the park together. Minutes later, Jean Baptiste arrived following a call from Henry-Campbell. The attack lasted barely two minutes before the killers fled on bikes.

Evidence and Motive Unveiled

  • Forensic blood analysis linked Jean Baptiste to the scene with near certainty.
  • None of the defendants confessed or explained their motive during the trial.
  • They believed Michael was a “snitch,” which led to the deadly assault.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb said, “This has been a long and complex investigation, but we were determined to keep fighting for justice. We are pleased these men will now be off the streets and unable to cause further harm.”

From Dropped Charges to Convictions

The Crown Prosecution Service initially dropped the case in early 2019. But thanks to persistent police work and new evidence, charges were reinstated in October 2022—leading to the trial and ultimate conviction of the six men.

The sentencing hearing on 20 November will finally close this dark chapter for Michael’s family, who have waited years for justice.
