Paedophile Posed as Teen Girl to Trap Boys – Jailed 21 Years
A twisted predator who posed as a teenage girl online to exploit and blackmail vulnerable boys has been slammed with a 21-year prison sentence. Jay Lang, 24, duped his victims into sending explicit images before demanding more money or pictures under threat.
Sinister Online Scheme Uncovered by Essex Police
Between April 2018 and November 2021, Lang masqueraded as “Chloe,” a 16-year-old girl, on Snapchat and Instagram. He targeted boys as young as 11, luring them into explicit chats and coercing them to share compromising photos and videos.
Once Lang had the images, he revealed his true identity and blackmailed the victims. On two occasions, he even arranged to meet boys in person, where he committed contact offences.
Hard-Hitting Sentencing at Basildon Crown Court
Following an intense probe by the Essex Police’s specialist child exploitation team, Lang pleaded guilty to 46 charges involving 26 young victims. The offences include child sexual exploitation, arranging child sex offences, blackmail, and possession of child pornography.
Judge Samantha Cohen handed Lang a hefty 21-year prison term, plus a six-year extended licence. He must serve at least 14 years behind bars before parole. Lang will also stay on the sex offenders’ register for life and is slapped with a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, banning almost all contact with children.
Police and Prosecutors Praise Victims’ Bravery and Teamwork
The court heard how the investigation was the largest child exploitation case ever tackled by Essex Police. Detective Sergeant Ben Rushmere, Detective Constable Hayley Langmead, and Detective Constable Steven Tilley were hailed for their dogged determination.
“The victims’ bravery and openness were critical in bringing Lang to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Rushmere. “We thank the families for their support throughout.”
Chief Inspector Paul Hogben said the case had made the community significantly safer. CPS specialist prosecutor Jeanette Smith praised the victims’ courage and vowed to relentlessly pursue those who exploit children.
Lengthy Data Dive Exposed Scale of Abuse
Lang was arrested in November 2021 at his Canvey home after police uncovered the horrifying extent of his crimes on his devices. Officers sifted through hundreds of gigabits of data, identifying victims and working closely with social care and safeguarding partners to protect them.
This landmark conviction sends a clear message: predators using the internet to abuse children will be hunted down and locked up for good.
