Taxi Driver Charged with Rape After Wigan Assault

A taxi driver has been charged with raping a 29-year-old woman in Wigan. The horrifying attack happened on September 19, 2020, after the woman had been out for drinks and a meal with friends at a local pub.

Safe Ride Turns into Nightmare

After spending time at a friend’s house, the victim ordered a taxi to take her home. Instead of ensuring her safety, the driver, known only as Mosi, sexually assaulted and raped her inside the car.

Mosi was arrested on suspicion of rape in October 2020. When questioned by police, he denied the crime, stating, “What rape?” He also claimed his dashboard camera was broken on the night in question.

Justice Served After Long Investigation

Following a thorough probe, Mosi was formally charged with rape on March 31, 2022.

Detective Constable Sally-Anne Skellern of Greater Manchester Police said, “Mosi spotted his victim and took advantage of her. She was alone after going out for drinks with her friends and just needed someone to get her home safely.”

“Mosi should have been the person who got her home safely; instead, he raped her in his taxi.”

Victim’s Bravery Praised as Police Warn Community

DC Skellern also applauded the victim’s courage. “Our thoughts are with the victim as she tries to move forward after this ordeal. Her bravery and persistence over the last two years have been vital in getting Mosi behind bars.”

She added, “Mosi is a sexual predator who preyed on a vulnerable young woman. It’s unspeakable. I’m glad he’s locked up and the streets are safer without him.”

The police stressed their ongoing commitment to protecting women and girls across Greater Manchester. “We want everyone, especially women and girls, to feel safe in their daily lives. We’re working with partners across the region to make that happen,” DC Skellern said.
