Wayne Couzens Sparks Outrage Over Denied Birthday Parcel
Wayne Couzens, the disgraced ex-cop serving a whole life sentence for the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard, has caused fresh controversy. The jailed murderer filed a formal complaint after prison bosses intercepted a birthday parcel from his mum.
Inside the package were books and clothes intended to mark Couzens’ 50th birthday. But prison staff at HMP Frankland blocked the gift in December 2022, sparking fury from Couzens, who claims similar deliveries were allowed earlier in the year.
‘No Explanation’ About Parcel Ban – Couzens Claims
Sources say Couzens stormed prison authorities over the intercepted package. He argued that neither he nor his family were told about the prison’s strict no-parcel policy.
“There was no proper explanation,” he reportedly said, hinting at seeking financial compensation for the hassle his family endured.
The ex-officer, convicted in 2021, sent his complaint to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman demanding action. He cited poor communication and lack of consideration towards his ageing parents.
Fury as Couzens’ Whining Backfires
But insiders slammed Couzens’ move as nothing more than self-pity and a desperate bid for special treatment behind bars. One source blasted the complaint, saying it’s “tasteless considering the horror of his crimes.”
Couzens’ brutal offence triggered national outrage, with many calling for police reform to prevent such atrocities.
Sarah Everard’s Family Speak Out
The family of Sarah Everard recalled how Couzens abused the trust placed in him as a Metropolitan Police officer. They reiterated their long-standing view that he should never have worn a police uniform.
“He was entrusted with our safety but instead committed horrific acts of violence. The system must be reformed and held accountable,” they said.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has yet to reveal if any action will be taken over Couzens’ complaint, leaving the row unresolved—for now.
