Man Jailed Over Brutal Death of Loving Dad in Emsworth
Tarin Linfield, 21, has been locked up for over five years after being found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Stephen Harrington, a devoted father from Emsworth.

The 47-year-old was found with a severe head injury on Marlpit Lane on July 23, 2022. He sadly died in hospital two days later.
Crime and Punishment: The Court Case
- Linfield, from Common Road, Hambrook, pleaded not guilty to murder but was convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to steal.
- He was sentenced to seven years, reduced to five years and four months thanks to his guilty plea.
- He also received a 15-month sentence for conspiracy to steal, to run concurrently.
- Joseph Butler, 23, of Priors Leaze Lane, Hambrook, pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted conspiracy to steal and got a 15-month suspended sentence.
- Co-defendant Goldring, 21, also charged with murder, died in prison before trial, making his case collapse.
The Shocking Details Behind the Attack
Prosecutors revealed the group targeted Stephen’s home intending to steal. Police concluded he died from a heavy blow to the head, likely by a wooden weapon.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Hicks said, “Our thoughts continue to be with Stephen’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. I hope this conviction and sentence for manslaughter will bring them some sense of closure.”
