Predator Sam Brown Locked Up for 10 Years After Targeting Young Girls Online

Sam Brown, 20, has been handed an extended 10-year sentence for sexually assaulting four teenage girls aged 14 to 16. The chilling case unfolded over nine months in 2022 and ended with Brown’s conviction on seven charges, confirmed at Edinburgh High Court on September 2, 2024.

Social Media Predator’s Reign of Terror

Brown used social media to groom his victims, luring them into brief relationships before launching violent attacks. His first known assault happened on March 10, 2022, against a 16-year-old girl he met online. Just a day later, he raped her in Edinburgh.

In June, Brown targeted another 16-year-old girl, also met online. He raped her in Glasgow and further assaulted her in nearby woods. The court heard brutal details, including repeated blows to the victim’s head, despite Brown falsely claiming the acts were consensual.

Later that month, Brown sexually assaulted a 14-year-old in Edinburgh city centre. His final recorded attack came in December, when he assaulted a 15-year-old girl he’d connected with on Snapchat, in a field near Edinburgh.

Heavy Sentence and Lifetime Orders

Brown was sentenced to seven years behind bars with a three-year extension period. The court also imposed indefinite non-harassment orders, keeping him away from all four victims.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offending, branded Brown a “dangerous individual who poses a threat to girls and young women.” She praised the victims’ bravery, which was key to securing his conviction.

Warning to Victims and Online Safety Call

“We urge any victim of similar crimes not to suffer in silence but to report it,” said Parkes. “You will be listened to and supported as we seek justice using all tools available.”

This grim case highlights the dangers lurking on social media and the vital need for online safety education. It also underscores ongoing police efforts to tackle crimes targeting young people.
