Bus Crashes Into Bridge in Eccles – Major Delays and Road Closures
A bus has smashed into a bridge at the busy junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road in Eccles, causing chaos and snapping traffic to a standstill. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and are still battling ongoing road closures.
Emergency Services Respond
“We are currently responding to a collision between a bus and a bridge at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road in Eccles. Emergency services remain on scene. Please avoid the area due to ongoing road closures,” a spokesperson said.
Urgent Investigation Launched
Vernon Everitt, Transport Commissioner for Greater Manchester, revealed that an urgent probe is now underway. He confirmed that Greater Manchester Police, Transport for Greater Manchester, and bus operator Stagecoach are all involved.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with everyone on board the bus. We are working closely with GMP and Stagecoach to determine how this happened. This is clearly a distressing situation for everyone involved,” said Everitt.
Calls for Safety Improvements Grow
The bridge, which is clearly marked with height restriction signs, has seen similar crashes before. Local residents are now demanding better safety measures to stop this happening again.
