Armed Police Step In After Teen Stabbed in Worthing Knife Attack
Armed officers were scrambled to Chapel Road, near Liverpool Road, at around 4.45pm on Sunday 13 March after a 13-year-old boy was found with stab wounds to his torso. The youngster was rushed to hospital but has since been discharged.
Seven Youths Arrested Following Knife Violence
Following a major investigation involving CCTV trawls, witness statements, and drone searches, seven local youths have been arrested in connection with the attack. They range from 12 to 15 years old and come mainly from Worthing and nearby Littlehampton.
- Four boys from Worthing, aged between 12 and 14, were charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. One also faces possession of an offensive weapon (a knife). All have been released on bail with strict conditions to appear at Brighton Youth Court on 22 April.
- A 14-year-old from Littlehampton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and is currently released under investigation.
- Two younger boys, aged 13 and 15 from Littlehampton, were released without charge.
None of the suspects can be named due to legal restrictions. Authorities warn the public not to speculate or identify the youths, as it could compromise the right to a fair trial.
Police Urge Public to Help with Ongoing Probe
Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter, District Commander for Adur and Worthing, said: “We continue to work closely with partner agencies and the community to prevent youth violence and take tough action on offenders.”
“This remains an active investigation. Anyone with info is urged to report it online or call 101 quoting Operation Abacus.”
