Scotland’s Biggest Illegal Tobacco Factory Raided and Razed

West Lothian witnessed one of Scotland’s largest illegal tobacco factories being smashed to bits after a daring police and HMRC raid. This high-tech operation was set up to dodge millions in unpaid duty every year.

State-of-the-Art Setup Uncovered

The factory boasted expensive machinery and soundproofing to mask noise and smells. Authorities seized a whopping four tonnes of tobacco – worth an eye-watering £1 million in lost taxes. Suspected counterfeit tobacco pouches were also taken off the streets.

Law Enforcement Vows to Crack Down Hard

Joe Hendry, Assistant Director, Fraud Investigation Service: “This was one of the largest and most sophisticated tobacco factories we have ever uncovered in Scotland. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to find and prosecute those behind the illegal tobacco trade.

The illicit trade robs money from vital public services, undercuts honest businesses, and fuels more crime. If you know about illegal tobacco or alcohol sales, report it to HMRC online.”

Police Scotland Detective Sergeant John Irvine: “We’re determined to disrupt, detect, and deter anyone involved in counterfeit or illegal tobacco sales. Criminals chase big profits here, which often leads to more crime.

If you have info on illegal tobacco in your community, contact HMRC or Police Scotland. You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously.

Five Arrests Made – Investigation Ongoing

Five suspects have been arrested and charged. But police warn this is just the start of a wider crackdown on the illegal tobacco trade.
