Hit-and-Run Monster Jailed for Life-Changing Crash in Uxbridge

Nahome Rezene, 23, of Newcourt, Hillingdon, has been slapped with five years behind bars for a shocking hit-and-run in Uxbridge that left a pedestrian with life-altering injuries.

High-Speed Police Chase Ends in Horror

On the evening of Tuesday, 26 November 2019, police chasing a blue Mercedes spotted behaving suspiciously ordered it to stop in Uxbridge. Instead, Rezene floored it, triggering a dangerous pursuit.

  • Rezene sped through 30mph zones at over 80mph.
  • He recklessly drove on the wrong side of the road during the chase.
  • The chase went from Breakspear Road to Harefield Road.

At a zebra crossing on Uxbridge High Street, Rezene smashed into a pedestrian. Officers stopped the chase immediately and rushed to aid the victim, who managed to crawl onto the pavement.

Further Chaos as Driver Flees Scene

Even after the pursuit ended, Rezene kept driving recklessly, smashing into another car and a London bus. Two more victims were hurt and rushed to hospital.

The impact wrecked the Mercedes so badly Rezene bailed on foot, dropping his coat. Police dogs found the coat during a manhunt.

Drugs and Dangerous Driving: A Toxic Mix

At the crash site, cops uncovered £2,500 worth of heroin inside the Mercedes. During CCTV checks, Rezene was also seen tossing £12,500 worth of cocaine from the window.

PC Kevin McLean from West Area CID: “This was a very complex and serious investigation, which my team and I were determined to solve. The CCTV footage of Rezene’s driving is horrendous and my heart goes out to the victim who suffered life changing injuries. The overwhelming evidence we gathered left Rezene no option but to plead guilty, sparing the victim from reliving the nightmare at trial.”

Rezene finally handed himself in on 2 January and was charged with multiple offences:

  • Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
  • Failing to stop or report a collision
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving without a proper licence
  • Possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin

Justice Served – But Victim’s Life Forever Changed

At Isleworth Crown Court on 30 September, Rezene pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to five years in prison.

The victim, who suffered life-changing injuries after being hit at the zebra crossing, attended the sentencing and praised police for their relentless pursuit of justice.

“Drugs supply is linked to violence in all its guises and we are steadfast in our determination to protect the public and make London safe for all our communities,” added PC McLean.
