Shocking Daylight Attack on 74-Year-Old Man by Chesterfield Canal

A 74-year-old man was viciously assaulted while walking along the Chesterfield Canal path in Worksop. The attack happened near the Lock Keeper pub and Rhodesia bridge at around 11:30am on Friday, 25 November 2022.

Man Pinned Down and Punched in Broad Daylight

The elderly victim was approached by a stranger who suddenly punched him before forcing him to the ground. The attacker pinned him for five terrifying minutes as the victim begged for mercy. The brutal assault left the man with a broken collarbone and facial injuries.

Police Make Arrest but Investigation Continues

Police arrested a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been released on bail while further inquiries are underway.

Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

“This was nasty unprovoked assault which happened in broad daylight,” said PC Katherine Tremayne of Nottinghamshire Police. “While we believe this is an isolated incident, the victim was left feeling deeply shocked and scared and in a great deal of pain.”

“Our inquiries are ongoing and we are working hard to trace the man responsible for this appalling crime. We urge anyone who was in the area at the time or has information to come forward.”
