Hackney Gang Members Jailed for Random Street Stabbings Murdering Joshua
Joshua was fatally stabbed outside a shop on Frampton Park Road, Hackney, on 26 April 2019. The attack was chillingly random — three young men chose him merely to prove themselves in a gang-ordered “ride out” of violence.
Minutes after stabbing Joshua, the trio attacked another innocent man nearby. He survived but was seriously injured.
Three Young Hackney Men Convicted for Murder and GBH
- Theo Momodu, 18, of Overbury Street, pleaded guilty to murder.
- Taylar Isaac, 20, of Amhurst Road, and David Kerrigan, 20, of Brackenfield Close, pleaded not guilty but were found guilty at trial in the Old Bailey on 16 April.
All three were also convicted of wounding with intent (Section 18 GBH) for the second attack.
Accomplice Sentenced for Helping Gang Hide Evidence
Harley McGivern, 20, from Beecholme Estate, Hackney, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice after letting the gang use his flat and aiding in disposing of their clothes. He awaits sentencing on 21 May.
Judge Hands Down Heavy Prison Terms
- Momodu received life imprisonment with a minimum of 18 years for murder and nine years concurrently for GBH.
- Isaac and Kerrigan got life sentences with a minimum of 25 years for murder and 12 years for GBH, to run concurrently.
Detective’s Stark Warning on Knife Crime
“These men picked out their victims at random and stabbed them in broad daylight. We could have lost two lives,” said Detective Sergeant Andy Sheppard from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
“Their brutal violence was aimed solely at proving themselves to a senior gang member. It’s senseless.”
“I pay tribute to Joshua’s parents for their dignity throughout these proceedings, despite the trauma of reliving the attack.”
“The footage of Joshua being chased and stabbed horrified us all. Releasing it helps people grasp the grim reality of knife crime.”
“Tackling gangs and violent crime remains our top priority. We will do everything to bring offenders like these to justice.”
Joshua’s Family Speak Out After Verdict
Mother Trisha Sargusingh: “Josh was kind, loving, and humble. His murder left a hole no one can fill. We mourn not just his death but all the dreams stolen from him. Although no sentence eases our pain, we hope this punishment deters others from ruining families like ours.”
Father Leigh White: “Thank you to everyone who fought for justice. Joshua’s loss breaks us all. This verdict won’t bring him back, but maybe it brings some comfort. I hope this serves as a warning to those thinking of carrying knives. Joshua was beautiful and caring; his death leaves a void impossible to fill.”
