Bournemouth Man Found Dead in Alleyway – Three Charged with Murder

Dorset Police were called at 3.16pm on Friday 14 January 2022 after ambulance crews found a 56-year-old man unresponsive in an alley at the end of Shelbourne Road. The victim, Michael Bastable – also known as Shaun – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests

A thorough investigation and post-mortem revealed Mr Bastable died from internal injuries. On 26 and 27 January, police arrested four people linked to the case. Three Bournemouth men – Hayden Johnson (28), Damien Johnson (30), and Dominic MacDonald (30) – were charged with murder and robbery.

They are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 31 January 2022.

A 27-year-old local woman previously arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation was released without charge. On 28 January, detectives arrested a 35-year-old Bournemouth woman on the same fraud suspicion; she remains under investigation.

Police Urge Public to Respect Court Process

“Following a meticulous investigation, led by the Force’s Major Crime Investigation Team, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised the charges for murder and robbery,” said Detective Superintendent Gavin Dudfield.

“Mr Bastable’s family have been updated and our thoughts are with them.

“This matter is now before the court. It would be inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further. We urge the public to avoid sharing information or commentary that could prejudice proceedings.”
