Three Men Jailed Over Brutal Daylight Attack in Ryton-on-Dunsmore
Three men have been locked up following a violent assault in Ryton-on-Dunsmore back in 2018. The shocking attack unfolded in broad daylight, leaving two men seriously injured.
The Attack: Jeep with Battering Ram Used in Assault
Michael Mongan, 22, from West Drayton; Gerry McDonagh, 26, from Burnhill Close; and John Kiely, 41, of Darlingscote Road, Shipston-on-Stour, appeared at Warwick Crown Court today.
On the morning of 16 October 2018, at around 8.40am, emergency services were called to the A445 Leamington Road after a road traffic collision. The victims, two men heading to work, were deliberately forced off the road by a Jeep driven by Kiely. The vehicle was equipped with a battering ram, used to stop them on a busy roundabout at Oxford Road.
The men were forced from their car. An altercation broke out involving Mongan and McDonagh. The victims suffered serious injuries – one sustained a deep neck wound, while the other suffered significant head and facial injuries.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrests
Police arrived fast, despite Mongan and McDonagh fleeing on foot. Public sightings helped officers capture them close by. Kiely was later caught after forensic work linked him to the crime.
The violent episode was tied to an ongoing dispute. All three men pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm.
Heavy Jail Terms for Brutal Attackers
Each was sentenced to 10 years and six months behind bars, sending a clear message about the consequences of daylight violence in the community.
Detective Superintendent Jon Marsden said: “This was a serious incident in broad daylight, on a busy roundabout near a local school. It caused severe injuries and shock to the community. After a lengthy investigation, I’m pleased these three have now been sentenced and will face justice.”
