Unsolved 2001 Royston Fire Claims Young Woman’s Life – Cops Still Hunting Arsonist
In the early hours of 8 September 2001, a house in Milgate Street, Royston, was deliberately set on fire. Lindsey, who was staying there, was trapped inside. Firefighters battled the blaze and managed to rescue her from the first floor, but she tragically died two days later from smoke inhalation.
Arson Investigation Hits Dead End
Police and fire service teams launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire. Despite exhaustive enquiries, no suspect has ever been identified or charged for the attack that took Lindsey’s life.
Police Plea: Help Solve Two-Decade-Old Mystery
Dave Stopford, head of the Major Incident Review Team, urged the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small:
“Two decades have passed since Lindsey’s death, but the pain of her loss is still felt by many who loved and miss her. There may be someone out there who knows a crucial detail about the events leading up to the fire. I would urge anyone with information, even if it may have seemed insignificant at the time, to come forward.”
