Drug Lords Behind Massive Cannabis Smuggling Ring Jailed
Samuel Dunne and Keenan Hall-Shelton have been jailed for running a huge drugs operation smuggling class B cannabis from California into the UK and Spain. Their criminal racket, active from February 2022 to April 2023, has finally been smashed by detectives.
Over 3 Tons of Cannabis Seized in High-Stakes Intercept
The illegal drugs came to light when Border Force officers intercepted vacuum-sealed packages hidden inside children’s toys and clothing, destined for Medway and North Kent addresses. More than 500 parcels were seized, containing an estimated 3-4 tons of high-grade cannabis.
Detectives uncovered that Dunne, 30, from Whitstable, led the operation from Spain and Dubai, employing Hall-Shelton, 32, from Sevenoaks, to help run the UK side. The total haul was valued at around £10 million per year.
Arrests and Court Sentences
Dunne was arrested at a family home in Greenhithe in April 2023, while Hall-Shelton was nabbed the same night near Gravesend, linked to a shipping container packed with drugs and cocaine. A raid at Hall-Shelton’s Sevenoaks address found £20,000 in cash and a knuckleduster.
On June 5, 2024, Maidstone Crown Court sentenced Dunne to seven-and-a-half years for conspiracy to import cannabis and possession with intent to supply. Hall-Shelton received seven years, also convicted of possessing criminal property, an offensive weapon, and an unrelated bike theft.
Detective’s Warning After Major Bust
Detective Sergeant Jon Saxby said: “Samuel Dunne was the head of an organised crime group who made huge sums from illegal drug trafficking. His sentence reflects the severity of his crimes. Keenan Hall-Shelton played a significant role as caretaker of the drugs and is now paying the price.
“We sent over 150 cease and desist letters to recipients of drug parcels warning them to stay clear or face arrest. Helping criminals like Dunne and Hall-Shelton ruins lives and futures. This is a clear message – crime doesn’t pay.”
