Notorious Shoplifter Banned From Tesco for Two Years
A notorious shoplifter from Tunbridge Wells has been slapped with a two-year Tesco ban after a spree of thefts, assaults, and vandalism rocked the local area.
Freddie Farnie, 31, a drifter with no fixed address, targeted Tesco stores on London Road and Pembury Road between August 30, 2024, and February 12, 2025. His criminal antics didn’t stop there – he also stole from a Faversham shop, assaulted a shop worker, attacked four emergency service staff, and caused damage at Tonbridge police station on three separate occasions.
Jailed? Not Quite – But Farnie Faces Tough Community Order
Farnie was arrested and faced multiple charges at Medway Magistrates’ Court on April 4. He pleaded guilty and was handed an 18-month community order packed with penalties:
- 150 hours of unpaid work
- A nine-month drug rehabilitation programme
- Compensation paid to his victims
- £85 court costs
Strict Criminal Behaviour Order Imposed
On top of the community order, Farnie received a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from:
- Entering any Tesco store
- Visiting a local shop on Silverdale Road, Tunbridge Wells
- Drinking or carrying open alcohol in public, except licensed venues
Breaking these rules could see Farnie fined or jailed.
Police on High Alert
PC Julie Edwards praised the court ruling, warning:
“Farnie is a prolific shoplifter who regularly comes to our attention and is arrested. He can also become violent, and his actions have caused considerable distress to shop workers.
He is now subject to the conditions of a strict court order, and we will be quick to attend any incidents where he is reported to have breached the restrictions. Should this happen, he is likely to find himself back before the magistrates to answer for his behaviour.”
Kent Police confirmed they’ll be keeping a close eye on Farnie and encouraged the public and retailers to report any breaches immediately. If you spot Farnie breaking the rules, ring 101 or 999 in emergencies.
This clampdown is part of a wider effort to shield retail workers across Kent from violent, repeat offenders like Farnie.
