Violence Erupts Over Booze Theft at Sainsbury’s – Security Guard Hospitalised
Two suspects are now facing charges after a violent scuffle at a Sainsbury’s in Staplehurst left a security guard with serious facial injuries. The drama unfolded during an attempted alcohol theft on the evening of Tuesday, June 3.
Chaos on Market Street: Bottles and Cans Thrown
At around 9pm, staff at the Market Street supermarket confronted two suspects trying to nick alcohol. The situation quickly turned ugly when the security guard was hit in the face with a can. Several glass bottles were hurled during the confrontation, one smashing a glass door.
Quick Police Action Leads to Arrests
Kent Police swooped on the suspects just half an hour later, arresting both by 9.30pm. They have since been charged in connection with the violent incident.
Teenager Admits Guilt – More Charges for 18-Year-Old
On June 5, a 17-year-old boy from Marden appeared in court and pleaded guilty to robbery, affray, causing actual bodily harm, and criminal damage. He was granted bail with strict conditions and is due for sentencing on July 7.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Davey Brown from Winch’s Garth, Staplehurst, faces the same charges plus assault. Brown refused to enter a plea and was remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing on July 4.
Investigation Continues as Guard Recovers
Kent Police confirmed the injured security guard is recovering well. Authorities praised the swift response that led to the arrests and stressed the investigation is ongoing.
