Driver Jailed for Killing Police Worker in Horrific A47 Crash

Connor Wilsher has been locked up for six years after a deadly head-on smash on the A47 near Leicester. The 21-year-old caused the tragic death of 23-year-old Local Support Team Officer Darcy Elizabeth Reid.

Deadly Overtake Ends in Disaster

On 3 July 2021, Darcy was driving her Nissan Micra citybound on Hinckley Road, close to Braunstone Park. Wilsher, behind the wheel of a VW Golf, attempted a dangerous overtake on a bend. He crashed straight into Darcy’s car, hitting it on the driver’s side.

Darcy suffered multiple injuries and sadly died weeks later in hospital. Wilsher fled the scene but was arrested shortly after when he showed up at hospital for treatment.

Guilty Plea and Harsh Sentence

  • Wilsher admitted to dangerous driving and failing to stop after the crash.
  • Today at 1 Crown Court, he was sentenced to six years behind bars.
  • He’s banned from driving for two years and will face an extended driving test before regaining his licence.

Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:

“Wilsher initially denied involvement but evidence showed he hit Darcy while overtaking on a bend. He pleaded guilty and now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his actions that day. Although nothing will bring Darcy back, we hope her family can begin to move forward.”

Family Mourns and Seeks Peace

Darcy’s dad, Simon Reid, thanked the police for their support and efforts to secure justice. He said:

“Today’s sentencing will not bring Darcy back. We started a life sentence last year when she passed away. We now wish to be left alone to grieve our beloved daughter.”
