A 26-year-old man is in custody following a deadly house fire that claimed the life of a 96-year-old woman in East Hampshire.
Firefighters called to dramatic blaze in Liss
Emergency services rushed to Mill Road, Liss, early on Friday morning after reports of a house fire. Fire crews found the elderly woman inside, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirm murder investigation underway
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “We were called at 5.18am on Friday 17 May to a report of a fire at an address in Mill Road, Liss. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that a 96-year-old woman had been pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.”
They added: “An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the blaze. A 26-year-old man from Liss has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The scene remains preserved while inquiries continue.”
