Heroic RNLI Rescue Off Calshot Beach
The Calshot RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat, ‘Max Walls’, was scrambled after reports of a person overboard from a J class yacht off Calshot beach. The yacht crew managed to self-rescue the casualty but raised the alarm with HM Coastguard, worried about their welfare.
Lifeboat Crew Pulled Man to Safety
- The Calshot RNLI volunteers launched without delay, racing to the yacht.
- On arrival, they transferred the casualty from the yacht onto the lifeboat for emergency care.
- The casualty had been wearing a life jacket, which played a key role in keeping them afloat.
Cold But Conscious: RNLI Care at Sea
After time in the chilly water, the casualty was very cold. The RNLI crew wrapped them in a casualty care blanket and hood, shielding them from the biting wind as they sped towards Hamble harbour.
“We kept talking to the casualty throughout to monitor their condition and keep them alert,” said a crew member.
Safe Handover to Ambulance Service
On arrival at Hamble Harbour Master pontoon, Calshot RNLI handed over the casualty to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton Central Ambulance Service. Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team were also on scene, assisting with the handover.
With the casualty in safe hands, the lifeboat crew promptly returned to station, ready for the next call.
