Brave Cops Tackle Violent Attacker Despite Injuries
On May 6, 2021, PCs Joseph Tidmarsh and Jamie Long faced a terrifying call. A violent man declared he wanted to assault or kill someone. The officers didn’t hesitate.
Assaulted and Pushed Down Stairs
The pair entered the building through a smashed communal door and headed upstairs. When they knocked, the man charged out. He punched PC Long and shoved PC Tidmarsh backwards. Both fell down the stairs, crashing through a door and into the garden below.
Despite the brutal attack, the violent assailant got back up. PC Long had minor injuries. PC Tidmarsh suffered severe bruising and pain.
Calm Under Fire, Officers Use Taser and Spray
Unfazed, the officers stayed focused. They used a Taser and PAVA spray to finally restrain the man.
Justice Served and Heroes Honoured
The attacker was charged with several offences. He received a 12-month suspended sentence and was ordered to pay £200 each to the brave officers.
“Despite being in pain, Joseph and Jamie remained calm and professional in a very violent situation,” said Police Federation Chair Paul Williams. “In an intense and frightening situation, they communicated clearly with the assailant. We are extremely proud of them.”
Both PCs Tidmarsh and Long are now nominees for The National Police Bravery Awards. They will attend a London ceremony this July, celebrating exceptional courage across England and Wales.
