Conman Paddy Doran Jailed for Preying on Elderly with Fake Roof Repairs

Three Shady Visits, One Heartless Scheme

Scumbag Paddy Doran, 31, made three uninvited visits in March 2020 to an elderly couple’s home near Church Road. He falsely claimed their roof tiles needed urgent replacement, accusing the original installers of stealing them. The roof was actually in good shape, but Doran duped the vulnerable pair into coughing up cash for work that was never done.

Gets Caught Red-Handed Trying to Scam More Cash

After swindling the initial payment, Doran tried to squeeze an extra £1,200 from his victims. Alerted, Kent Police launched an investigation through their Serious Crime Directorate. While officers were at the couple’s address, Doran was spotted driving past. They tailed him to a nearby cul-de-sac where he attempted to make a clean getaway on foot — but it was too late.

Convicted and Locked Up

Doran, from Townfield Lane, Chalfont St Giles, was arrested and charged with fraud by false representation and driving without proper vehicle registration. Despite denying the charges, a jury at Maidstone Crown Court found him guilty on 14 September. The following day, he was sentenced to two years and three months behind bars.

Warning to the Public: Stay Alert and Protect Vulnerable Neighbours

“Anyone can become a victim of fraud but it is usually the most vulnerable in our society who are targeted,” said DC Mark Newman. “Doran conned his victims out of a large sum, with no intention of doing any work. We urge people to be wary of doorstep callers and to check up if something feels off. It could save someone from being scammed.”

Doran has also been slapped with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order. This bans him from cold-calling, offering business services, or instructing others to do so. Breaching the order could see him back behind bars.
