Brutal Daylight Machete and Shooting Attack in Rumney
Keiron Hassan, 32, and Kamal Legall, 26, launched a savage assault outside a shop on Harris Avenue in Rumney. Hassan struck the victim on the neck with a machete, slicing a five-inch wound and fracturing vertebrae.
Meanwhile, Legall stood over the injured man and shot him in the buttock, breaking his femur and causing a severe gunshot wound.
DNA Evidence Links Shooter to Crime Scene
Forensic experts found DNA on the shotgun, cartridges, and the getaway vehicle, all matching Kamal Legall. Emergency services rushed the victim to University Hospital, where he underwent hours of surgery and multiple blood transfusions to save his life.
CPS Slams Attack as ‘Brutal’ Attempt to Kill
“This was a brutal attack in broad daylight with lethal weapons and could easily have resulted in the loss of life,” said CPS lawyer Thomas Edwards.
“Despite their denials, strong evidence proved both men were responsible and intended to kill the victim.”
“We hope the victim makes a full recovery from these serious injuries.”
Hard Time Behind Bars for Hassan and Legall
Both attackers were handed a combined 24-year prison sentence. They must serve at least two-thirds of their time, ensuring they stay locked up for years to come.
