Two men convicted of murder after deadly Wolverhampton arson kills young man

Fatal Fire on Plascom Road

Akashdeep Singh, 26, tragically died after a brutal fire tore through his Wolverhampton home on Plascom Road in the early hours of Tuesday, 25 June 2024. His mother suffered life-changing injuries, while one of his brothers was seriously hurt in the blaze.

Today, nearly a year after the horrific attack, Dale Francis and Daniel Tatters were found guilty of murder following a lengthy trial, finally bringing some justice to Singh’s devastated family.

How the Attack Unfolded

Prosecutors revealed chilling details: Tatters smashed the bay window of Singh’s home, poured flammable liquid inside, and sparked the fire with a cigarette lighter. The flames spread rapidly, trapping the family members inside.

Investigators recovered the discarded lighter from the driveway, a key piece of evidence that helped crack the case. Francis was found to have worked closely with Tatters in planning the arson. Both men faced charges of murder, attempted murder, and arson with intent to endanger life.

West Midlands Police Respond

“This was a horrific and deliberate act of violence that cost a young man his life and left his family physically and emotionally scarred,” said a West Midlands Police spokesperson. “Francis and Tatters showed no regard for the lives they endangered. Today’s convictions reflect the gravity of their crimes.”

Family Mourns Kind-Hearted Akashdeep

In a heartfelt tribute released shortly after the attack, Singh’s family described him as “a kind, gentle young man with his whole life ahead of him.” They continue to grieve in private, asking for respect during this painful time.

Sentencing to Follow

Both men await sentencing in the coming weeks, where they will face justice for the deadly arson that shattered a young family’s life.
