Two Men Convicted of Rape After Teen Attacked in Brighton

Two men have been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a vulnerable teenage girl in Brighton. The chilling attack unfolded late at night on June 2, 2021, but justice has finally caught up with the offenders.

Public Heroes Helped Rescue Victim

Shortly before midnight, a passerby spotted the distressed girl with two men — Ashley Lewis, 36, from Bromley, and Dylan Holden, 18, from Brighton. Both men fled after members of the public intervened and helped the victim get home safely.

Police launched a full rape investigation after speaking to the victim the next day, with specialist officers providing support throughout.

CCTV Evidence Seals the Case

Surveillance footage clearly shows Lewis and Holden leading the victim to Pavilion Gardens, where the attack took place. Disturbingly, Lewis was also caught on camera stealing the girl’s bag during the ordeal.

Both suspects were arrested in the days following the incident. Lewis faced charges including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and theft. Holden was charged with rape, attempted rape, and two counts of sexual assault.

Guilty Verdict After Four-Week Trial

On November 11, after a lengthy four-week trial at Hove Crown Court, both men were convicted of all but the attempted rape charges. They remain in custody and will be sentenced on January 5, 2023.

“Women should be able to go about their lives without fear of predatory men,” said Detective Constable Laura Pettitt.

“The victim’s incredible bravery was key to securing this conviction and removing these dangerous men from the streets. I also commend the members of the public who stepped in to help. We will never tolerate violence against women and girls in Sussex.”
