Lifers Locked Up for Teen’s Shocking Edmonton Stabbing
Two young men have been sentenced to life behind bars for the brutal murder of 16-year-old Taye Faik. The schoolboy was viciously stabbed just yards from his home in Edmonton. Bernard Carroll, 20, and Josiah James Semper, 19, both from Enfield, got 22 years minimum at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 22 October.
Chase, Stab, Escape – A Horror Near Home
On 1 October 2023, Carroll and Semper chased Taye as he ran for safety. Semper, armed with a flick knife, dealt the fatal blow while Carroll drove the getaway car to Kendal Gardens, fully aware of the violence about to unfold. Detectives exposed how the deadly attack was planned.
“This was a shocking and brutal attack on a teenage boy who was yards from his front door… Carroll drove the car knowing Semper was armed and that serious violence would happen. It was clear there was a great deal of planning involved,” said Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
Taye had been out walking his dog when the horror struck. Neighbours heard the chaos and witnessed the getaway car speeding off. Emergency services desperately tried to save him, but Taye died at his home, collapsing in the hallway.
Police Crack Case with CCTV and Arrests
Police sprang into action after the call came at 11.27pm on 1 October. CCTV footage tracked the stolen car, found abandoned with fake plates in a nearby car park. Bernard Carroll was arrested on 6 November in Edmonton but refused to cooperate. Semper fled overseas to Antigua but was caught on return to the UK on 17 November. He too stayed silent during questioning.
“Taye’s family have endured unimaginable pain. While nothing can undo the loss, the conviction and sentencing of Carroll and Semper offers some comfort,” DCI Yorke said. “This case shows the deadly consequences of carrying knives and should act as a stark warning to others.”
