Fatal Crash Closes A256 for Hours After Motorbike and Van Collide

Horror Smash on Sandwich Bypass

A serious collision on the A256 in Sandwich has left a motorcyclist dead and left the road shut for several hours. The motorbike rider suffered horrific injuries after crashing side-on into a Ford Transit van while overtaking just after 11.30am on Wednesday.

Van Driver Hospitalised

The driver of the Ford Transit, who is from outside the local area, was rushed to hospital following the horror smash. Emergency crews, including the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance, were called to the scene to treat both parties. Tragically, the rider later died of their injuries.

Investigation Underway

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit quickly sealed off the scene on the A256 Sandwich bypass. Spokesperson confirmed:

“Officers were called at 11.41am on Wednesday, 22 July 2020, following a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a van. The motorcyclist is reported to have died. The road is currently closed while we investigate.”

Specialist crash investigators have spent the morning gathering crucial evidence from the scene.
