Smash and Threats in Ely: Couple Terrorise Neighbours
On May 24, 2020, Joseph Lyon and David Adupa, both 24, pulled up outside a property in Ely and unleashed chaos. They smashed a car window and began threatening a woman standing outside the house.
Threats to Burn House and Ammonia Attack
Adupa stormed out of the car, warning he’d come back to burn the property down. The pair claimed their rampage was linked to a dispute with someone else living at the address. When a neighbour tried to intervene, Lyon escalated matters by squirting ammonia-laced liquid from a Lucozade bottle at him. The victim escaped unharmed but was left with a noticeable white stain on his t-shirt.
Police Catch Up, Lyon Sentenced to Three Years
- Victims dialled the cops and provided the car’s registration.
- Police tracked down and arrested Lyon.
- Adupa turned himself in two days later at Parkside Police Station.
- Lyon, from Harlton, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to threatening property damage, attacking with corrosive liquid, and possessing an offensive weapon.
- He also admitted to blackmail and assault against a work colleague, resulting in a three-year jail sentence at Huntingdon Law Courts on January 24.
- Adupa, with no fixed address, also pleaded guilty but skipped court, leading to a bench warrant for his arrest.
Detective Condemns “Horrific” Attack
“This was a horrific case where a woman was threatened and a man was covered in a noxious substance simply for trying to keep the peace,” said Detective Constable Richard Rose.
“Nobody should be made to feel afraid or intimidated while going about their daily activities. I hope Lyon now reflects on his actions and that the victims can find some solace as a result.”
