Warning: Fraudsters Target Isle of Wight Residents with Fake Police Calls

Police have issued a fresh alert after reports of scam phone calls on the Isle of Wight. Crooks are pretending to be officers from the Metropolitan Police, asking homeowners to help with a fake investigation — but it’s just a ploy to steal cash.

How the Scam Works

The con artist on the phone claims there’s been fraud on your bank account. They say your card’s been cloned or the money in your account is counterfeit. Then, they instruct you to withdraw your cash immediately “to protect it” or use it as “evidence.”

Next, a so-called ‘courier’ arrives to collect the money. These scammers are slick and have tricked victims into handing over thousands of pounds.

Who’s at Risk?

While anyone can fall for the scam, older and elderly people are often the main targets. Vulnerable residents need extra protection from these ruthless criminals.

If you care for someone elderly or vulnerable, be their scam shield. Talk to them, warn them about these calls, and remind them not to trust suspicious phone requests.

Police Issued Top Scam Advice

“Police officers, banks, or any official body will NEVER call you asking for your bank details or personal info,” police stress.
