Hit-and-Run Chaos in Reading: Man Struck by Car, Brawl Erupts
Thames Valley Police are hunting witnesses after a bizarre hit-and-run incident sparked mayhem in Reading.
Man Hit by Blue Ford Focus at Kebab Van
At around 5.30pm on Tuesday (April 16), a man was struck by a blue Ford Focus outside a kebab van on Basingstoke Road. The car had mounted the pavement and sped off without stopping.
Car Chase Ends in Violent Scuffle on Forbury Road
The blue Focus was chased by a grey car into Reading town centre. The Ford smashed into several other vehicles before crashing into the grey car near the railway bridge on Forbury Road.
Tempers flared as a man brandished a hammer and threatened the other driver.
Brawl Spills onto Friar Street, One Man Arrested
The two men fled on foot, one trying to hop onto a bus and grab a taxi. Police quickly arrested a 30-year-old Reading man on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, affray, possession of an offensive weapon, and driving offences.
The man hit by the Focus suffered minor leg injuries and a cut to his hand. He received hospital treatment and has now been discharged.
Police Plea for Witnesses and Footage
Detective Constable Marius York urged: “This happened when many people were out and about. We need anyone who saw what happened on Basingstoke Road, Forbury Road, or Friar Street to come forward. If you have footage, please get in touch.”

The arrested man has been released on police bail until May 14 as the investigation continues.
