High Road Shut After Horror Two-Car Smash in Chadwell Heath

High Road in Chadwell Heath is completely shut both ways following a nasty two-vehicle crash, with one car flipping over near a pub’s beer garden. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the smash happened just after 10:30pm at the busy junction with Whalebone Lane North.

Sound “Like a Bomb” Shakes Nearby Pubs

Witnesses described the deafening bang as “like a bomb going off.” Several bystanders sprang into action, rushing to free trapped passengers from the overturned vehicle. Locals say the scene was chaotic, with one onlooker telling us, “It sounded like a bomb. People screamed, then ran to help. One of the cars looked like it had too many people inside.”

Another witness added that the violent impact caused one car to overturn, possibly trapping multiple casualties inside.

Massive Road Closures and Bus Diversions

Transport for London has thrown out diversion orders for key bus routes hit by the closure:

  • Route 62 towards Barking and Marks Gate
  • Routes 86 and N86 towards Romford
  • Route 362 towards Goodmayes and Grange Hill

Buses are now rerouted via Barley Lane, Chadwell Heath Lane, and the A12. Long delays are expected well into the night as the road remains blocked.

Police and Emergency Services Urge Drivers to Avoid Area

The road was initially blocked eastbound at 10:34pm but was fully closed in both directions by 10:49pm. The Metropolitan Police have been contacted but have yet to release details on casualties or arrests. Emergency crews are still at the scene, working to clear debris and assess injuries.

Authorities are urging all drivers to steer clear of Chadwell Heath and find alternate routes as investigators comb the crash site. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to call the Met Police on 101, quoting the incident time and location.
