Scooter Thieves Nab Seven Years Behind Bars After Nighttime Robbery
Two brazen robbers who snatched a handbag while riding a scooter have been locked up for a combined seven years at Kingston Crown Court.
Thieves Caught Red-Handed After Moped Grab
Recco Williams, 21, from Wandsworth, was handed four years and 10 weeks for robbery, multiple fraud charges, and breaching a suspended sentence. His accomplice, 18-year-old Reuben Blakeway, also from Wandsworth, got nearly three years for the same offences.
The pair struck on the evening of 15 February. A 24-year-old woman was walking home from Streatham Common Train Station when a moped mounted the pavement at Churchmore Road junction. The pillion passenger yanked her handbag — containing an iPhone and credit cards — and dragged her to the ground before they sped off.
Quick Police Work Cracks The Case
- The victim cancelled some cards fast but noticed fraudulent purchases at Tooting shops.
- CCTV captured Williams and Blakeway making the transactions.
- Williams was arrested at home on 23 February; Blakeway turned himself in on 5 March.
Met Police Deliver Fierce Warning
“This was a fantastic result, which has seen vicious scooter robbers receive lengthy prison time,” said Detective Constable Jack Kraushaar. “We’re making the streets hostile territory for criminals using scooters to snatch valuables.”
Both men pleaded guilty to fraud on 13 June, and were convicted of robbery. The court’s tough sentences send a clear message: scooter-enabled crime won’t be tolerated.
