Two Arrested as Illegal Waste Dump the Size of Football Pitch Raided in Lincolnshire

Two suspects have been nabbed in a major crackdown on a massive illegal waste site in Lincolnshire. The site, sprawling across Fen Lane in Long Bennington, is as big as a football pitch and was caught red-handed dumping and burning tonnes of rubbish.

Excavator and Lorry Seized in Bold Raid

Environment Agency officers teamed up with Lincolnshire Police to swoop on the site yesterday. They seized an excavator and a lorry still unloading waste when officers arrived. The illegal haul included plastics, commercial trash, and household furniture.

Huge Waste Piles Burning, Choking Locals

The waste was not just dumped—it was set on fire. Smoke clouds from massive mounds, some as large as bungalows, wreaked havoc on local air quality. Residents were left struggling as toxic smoke drifted over the area, threatening health and the environment.

Ongoing Crime Despite Lockdown

Officials had been watching the site for weeks, noting the illegal activity ramp up despite strict coronavirus lockdown rules. “Deliberately stockpiling and burning waste during these times shows shocking disregard for communities and the environment,” said Norman Robinson, Area Director for the Environment Agency.

Legal Notices Issued, Site Shut Down

After a thorough inspection in January that involved planning enforcement officers, legal action was taken. All entrances to the site have now been blocked and waste operations halted.

“We continue to fight waste crime and won’t hesitate to act—lawbreakers beware,” Norman Robinson warned.

Police Back Environment Agency in Protecting Communities

Chief Inspector Phil Vickers from Lincolnshire Police praised the raid, saying: “We’re committed to stopping illegal operators who harm local people, the environment, and legitimate businesses. Thanks to local residents for their vital support.”

Investigations will continue, with authorities closely monitoring the site to ensure all waste is cleared. Those found guilty could face hefty fines or even jail time.
