Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt in Crash Near Shorwell
A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash near Shorwell this morning, sparking a major emergency response.
Crash Blocks B3399, Chaos on the Roads
The collision happened just after 8am on Walkers Lane at the Shorwell end of the B3399. The rider veered off the road, coming to a stop in a field near Westcourt Farm. This single-vehicle smash has blocked the road completely.
All three emergency services rushed to the scene. The Isle of Wight fire service sent a unit from Newport to secure the crash site. Meanwhile, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was called in to help after Isle of Wight paramedics requested extra support.
Traffic Nightmare: Buses and School Runs Disrupted
The collision caused gridlock, trapping several buses between Brighstone and Shorwell. Bus services were severely disrupted, forcing operators to implement diversion routes and revise timetables. School buses were also caught up in the growing traffic chaos.
Rider Airlifted to Southampton Major Trauma Centre
Paramedics and air ambulance doctors are currently treating the badly injured rider at the scene. The victim is being airlifted to Southampton General Hospital’s major trauma centre for urgent care.
Update: Emergency services have now cleared the scene, and bus routes are returning to normal.
