Two Sussex Cops Axed After Assault Conviction

Two East Sussex police officers have been booted from the force after being found guilty of excessive force on a teenager. PC Deborah Sands, 48, and PC Kris Green, 36, faced an accelerated misconduct hearing at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes on Monday, March 14.

Assault Charges Spark Fast-Track Hearing

The pair were charged following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation. They were convicted in December 2021 for assaulting a teenage girl during a detention in eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne back in May 2020.

Because evidence was clear-cut, the Chief Constable fast-tracked the misconduct hearing to swiftly remove them from service and place them on the barred list.

“We expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour,” said Chief Constable Jo Shiner. The actions of these two officers fell short of that and in accordance with the College of Policing guidance, they have been dismissed from the force.”
