Hero Cops Save Two Lives in One Chaotic Night
PC Mabz Rahman and PC Ryan McCarthy sprang into action during a late shift on Thursday, 26 August, proving why they’re true lifesavers on London’s streets.
Life-or-Death Rescue on Somerford Grove
At 9.26pm, the London Ambulance Service flagged down the officers about an unresponsive man lying in the street on Somerford Grove, N16. The pair arrived within minutes and found the man in cardiac arrest, unconscious with a head injury and tongue rolled back.
Quick thinking saw PC Rahman start chest compressions while PC McCarthy managed the victim’s airway and prepared a defibrillator. Moments later, a gasp and a pulse returned.
Paramedics took over, rushing the man to hospital where he later recovered. Without the officers’ swift action, survival would have been unlikely.
Another Life-Threatening Call Just Hours Later
Less than three hours later, at 00:32 on 27 August, the duo were called to a stabbing in Teale Street, E2. Arriving first, they found a man with a chest wound.
PC McCarthy grabbed a bandage and applied it while PC Rahman pressed down to control bleeding. Paramedics praised their prompt aid, warning the man’s chances were slim without it.
Police Praise and Heartfelt Reflections
“No two shifts are ever the same,” said PC Rahman. “We join the service to help when it matters most. Staying calm and working together made all the difference. I’m proud our actions saved lives.”
PC McCarthy added, “We often face serious incidents, but this shift was above and beyond. I’m pleased we rose to the challenge.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett lauded the officers: “I am immensely proud of Mabz and Ryan. Their skill and quick-thinking in two tough scenarios saved two lives. They show the best of the Met every day.”
