Teens Guilty of Stabbing Murder Over Online Feud
Brutal Killing Over a ‘Girl’ Sparks Outrage
Ali Tasyurdu, 18, from Islington, and a 16-year-old boy have been found guilty of murdering 19-year-old Nikolay Petrov Vandev. The pair also injured another 19-year-old man during the same violent incident.
The deadly attack stemmed from a petty online spat about a girl, which quickly spiralled into shocking violence. Both suspects had admitted to carrying a knife back in June 2021. Their sentencing is set for Friday, 1 April.
Lockdown Fight Ends in Tragedy Near Tottenham
The trouble began over a broken relationship that sparked threats online between Nikolay’s friend and Tasyurdu. On 8 March 2021, when schools reopened after lockdown, the victim was attacked near Tottenham Station. He was punched and stabbed in the leg but managed to escape by vaulting a wall.
Meanwhile, peace-maker Nikolay stepped in and was fatally stabbed in the chest. The suspects fled, changed clothes, and tried to dump the bloody Rambo-style knife in nearby Tottenham Marshes.
Knife with DNA Evidence Seals Fate
Police swiftly arrested Tasyurdu after he confessed to a relative about the murder. The younger accomplice handed himself in days later. Officers found two identical knives: one at the scene with Tasyurdu’s DNA on the handle, and another in the marshes stained with the injured friend’s blood.
Detective Sergeant Brett Hagen from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command condemned the violence. “This was a needless and brutal murder stemming from an online social media feud about a girl,” he said. “A fight picked online during lockdown has resulted in loss of life and ruin for all involved.”
Heartfelt Tribute to Nikolay
“Nikolay had never been in trouble with the police, had not armed himself, and was merely trying to intervene as a peace-maker,”
Detective Hagen expressed condolences to the bereaved family, praising their dignity during the harrowing trial featuring CCTV footage of the stabbing. Both teenagers now face hefty prison sentences for their deadly actions.
