A&E Chaos Hits Sussex Hospitals: Urgent Appeal from NHS Trust
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, running seven hospitals across five sites, has issued a red alert. On Tuesday afternoon, they revealed that the A&E departments at Worthing and St Richard’s hospitals are bursting at the seams.
The Trust hailed its staff’s tireless efforts amid the chaos but warned the public to think twice before turning up.
Only Come to A&E for Life-Threatening Emergencies
With A&E running at full tilt, the Trust begged visitors for patience and understanding. They urged people to only attend A&E with life-threatening conditions, especially in West Sussex where patient numbers are soaring.
Use Urgent Treatment Centres for Non-Emergencies
To ease the crunch, the Trust recommended turning to Urgent Treatment Centres or Minor Injury Units for less serious issues.
- Sprains
- Minor head injuries
- Scalds
- Stomach problems
These centres are kitted out to deal with a range of conditions and help free up A&E for the most critical cases, ensuring quicker care where it’s needed most.
Trust Stands Firm in Its Commitment
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust remains fully committed to top-quality healthcare. They urge the community to back their efforts during this pressure cooker period.
