Major Brothel Bust Hits Kent and North London
On the morning of 31 March 2021, Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate swooped on six locations nationwide in a crackdown on brothel management.
£4,800 Cash and Gadgets Seized
Officers confiscated around £4,800 in cash, two laptops, seven mobile phones, and stacks of documents linked to alleged prostitution control.
Three Suspects Arrested But Later Released
- A 33-year-old man from Gillingham’s Balmoral Road was detained on suspicion of brothel-keeping, money laundering, and fraud. He has since been released pending further investigations.
- A 48-year-old woman with no fixed address and a 60-year-old man from Wood Green, North London, were also arrested during raids on five properties. Both have also been released on bail.
Key Suspect Charged and Remanded
Two days after the raids, 35-year-old Yuan Hang from Wood Green voluntarily attended Kent Police HQ. He was charged with conspiring to control prostitution for gain and acquiring criminal property.
Hang was remanded in custody, set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 3 April and later at Maidstone Crown Court on 4 May.
Kent Police Launch Campaign Against Modern Slavery
Kent Police have teamed up with Crimestoppers UK to run a new marketing and social media campaign. The aim: to raise awareness of modern slavery and help the public spot signs of exploitation.
Messages and leaflets—printed in multiple languages—are being spread through Neighbourhood Watch, parish councils, chambers of commerce, and other local groups in high-risk communities.
