West Wickham Vape Shop Fined for Selling to Underage Buyer
A West Wickham vape shop has been slapped with a hefty fine after selling a vape to a 14-year-old, revealed Bromley Trading Standards.
The offence happened at MVE Mobile Vape Exchange on High Street, where the teen volunteer bought an Elf Bar 600 puff ‘grape’ vape without any ID check or challenge from staff.
Trading Standards’ Sting Operation Leads to Legal Action
Complaints triggered a test purchase by Bromley Trading Standards using the underage volunteer. The sale went through smoothly, prompting swift prosecution.
At Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 10 September 2024, director Mr Raj Kumar Nanda, representing Vape & Mobile UK Ltd, admitted selling to a minor.
The company was fined £1,000, ordered to pay £423 in costs, plus a £400 court surcharge — totalling £1,823 in penalties.
Council Sends Warning to All Retailers
“This conviction sends a strong message to all that this is a serious matter,” said Councillor Page, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement.
“Our Trading Standards team supports local businesses to ensure they know their responsibilities to protect young people. Retailers must challenge anyone who looks under 25.”
The council pledged ongoing commitment to stop illegal sales of age-restricted products and warned enforcement action will continue when needed.
