Wiltshire Police Launches First-Ever Recruitment Drive for Transferring Detectives
Wiltshire Police is on the hunt for experienced officers ready to transfer from other forces. This is the force’s first recruitment blitz aimed at bolstering their frontline detectives.
Vacancies in CID and Public Protection
The force needs to fill key roles in its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Public Protection Department (PPD). CID detectives tackle serious crimes like sexual offences, attempted murder, kidnap, and robbery. The PPD focuses on protecting vulnerable adults, children, and victims of high-risk domestic abuse, as well as managing offenders.
Why Transfer to Wiltshire?
Detective Superintendent Chris Hanson, who transferred from a larger force last year, praises Wiltshire for its tight-knit team spirit. “There’s a strong sense of teamwork and looking out for each other here, which you don’t get in bigger forces,” he said. “Work is varied, interesting, and our detectives handle cases start to finish, leading to better outcomes for victims.”
Wiltshire offers flexibility with full and part-time roles, choice of location and teams, plus specialist training and career support. “The transfer process is straightforward, and we expect new officers to join from spring next year onwards,” Hanson added.
Officers Share Their Success Stories
DC Jen Jeffcoat-Marsh moved from Avon and Somerset this year to Melksham PPD. “Wiltshire offers great promotion prospects, career development, and a healthy work-life balance,” she explained. “We deal with a wide range of serious cases and achieve excellent results in court.”
DC Helen Carrick switched from Thames Valley Police to Swindon CID after seven years. “The team dynamic is really strong here, and the shifts support a good work-life balance,” she said. Helen encourages interested cops to speak with existing transferees for advice on the process.
