Sheffield Woman Pleads Guilty to Husband’s Murder
A 44-year-old woman has admitted murdering her husband at Sheffield Crown Court today (Wednesday 19 April).
Pauline Caster changed her plea to guilty on the third day of her trial, which began on Monday 17 April. She was charged with the murder of her husband, Kevin Caster.
Disturbing Scene on High Hazel Crescent
The court heard that on the evening of 19 October 2021, emergency services were called to High Hazel Crescent after Caster was seen running in the street, screaming that her husband was dead.
Paramedics and police found Kevin Caster, 43, gravely injured at their home. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead later that night in hospital.
Shocking CCTV and Witness Reports
Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons said: “Firstly I wish to send my condolences to Kevin’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragic loss.
“Our inquiries revealed a history of arguments between the couple. On the night of Kevin’s death, witnesses heard Pauline shouting at him. Several saw her making violent gestures and stamping on him through a window.
“CCTV footage shows her violently stamping on Kevin while he lay on the floor. She then waited an hour and a half before calling for help, by which time nothing could save him.
“Paulinie also gave conflicting accounts to those who came to her aid that night – claiming Kevin had been in a fight, had taken pills, or suffered a seizure.”
“This is a heartbreaking case. Not only has Kevin’s loved ones lost him, but Pauline now faces a long custodial sentence and is effectively lost to them too.”
Sentencing Set for Thursday
Pauline Caster, formerly of Harmony Way, Catcliffe, remains remanded in custody. She is due back at Sheffield Crown Court tomorrow (Thursday 20 April) for sentencing.
