Dover Traffic Jam Alert: New Rules Hit the A20
Motorists heading into Dover from the west are hitting the brakes. Kent County Council enforced the Dover Traffic Access Protocol (TAP) just after 3pm on Tuesday, slowing traffic with fresh restrictions.
40mph Limit and Traffic Lights to Tame Congestion
All vehicles approaching Dover via the A20 must now stick to a 40mph speed limit. And when queues get too long, temporary traffic lights will control the flow of lorries into the town.
Heavy Freight Volumes Cause Chaos
Kent County Council explained the move is to tackle “heavy freight volumes” and stop port-bound traffic wreaking havoc on Dover’s roads and the A20 through the town.
“The measure was taken to prevent port-bound traffic from disrupting the local road network and the A20 through Dover town,” said a council spokesperson.
How Long Will TAP Last? Unknown
Drivers will have to wait and see how long the protocol stays in place. There’s no word yet on whether TAP will be lifted before the upcoming bank holiday.
