Woman Crushed Between Vehicles on Isle of Wight Ferry

A woman was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after being trapped between two vehicles on the Isle of Wight’s Red Funnel car ferry this Monday afternoon.

Passengers on the cross-Solent ferry, which runs between the Isle of Wight and Southampton, reported hearing a woman scream just after 1.30pm as the roll-on, roll-off ferry docked.

Horror Unfolds During Ferry Unloading

Witnesses say the woman was walking between two vehicles when a lorry suddenly pushed a car forward, pinning her from the waist down.

Red Funnel said: “At approximately 1.30pm today, an incident occurred between two passenger vehicles and one lorry onboard Red Osprey whilst the vehicles were departing the ferry.”

Emergency Services Quickly Respond

Police and ambulance crews arrived promptly. The woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

Red Funnel confirmed: “The police are liaising directly with the driver of one of the vehicles and we are assisting with their enquiry.”

They added: “Safety onboard our ferries is of primary importance and the safety of our customers is paramount to us. The crew onboard Red Osprey were on hand immediately to assist with the incident before the emergency services arrived.”
