Police veteran Christine Chamberlain hits 30 years on the beat – and blows out the candles with a surprise at work!

30 Years of Service Celebrated with a Bang

Christine Chamberlain has dedicated over three decades to Nottinghamshire Police. Starting as a constable and now serving as an emergency call handler, she’s a true force stalwart. On Monday, her final shift before taking a break to celebrate a milestone birthday, Christine arrived to find her desk decked out with balloons and gifts.

“It was a wonderful surprise,” Christine beamed. “I’ve got two big balloons spelling 7 0 – I keep telling everyone the seven is a two!”

From Policewoman to Emergency Call Handler

Christine joined Nottinghamshire Police back in 1974, serving at Bulwell and Hucknall. She stepped away from the force for a few years after marrying but returned in 1993 as a civilian officer. Since 2000, she has worked at the Arnold headquarters and now handles emergency calls part-time in the control room.

A Job She Loves, A Family She Cherishes

Sharing her feelings, Christine said: “I love working here. I work with some lovely people – it’s like a family. I’ll be sorry to leave whenever that day comes. It’s so nice to come and do a job that you understand and involves helping people.”

12 Decades of Friendship and Surprises

Among those who organised the birthday bash was Carolann Henderson, also an emergency call handler who first met Christine in the 1970s while working for Nottinghamshire Police.

“Christine’s my best friend here. We’re able to laugh a lot but we also support each other. She’s such a lovely lady so we really wanted to surprise her for her birthday.”
