Knife Seized After Teens Caught Fleeing Police Near Canada Water
Youth chaos near Canada Water has sparked swift police action. Following reports of youngsters hurling fireworks around the busy station, officers from the Territorial Support Group (TSG) have been out in force all week.
Teenagers Spotted Acting Suspiciously
On Tuesday, 27 October, at around 5:40pm, TSG officers spotted two teenage boys behaving oddly on Helena Street, SE16. When police moved in, both tried to bolt. After a quick chase, they were stopped.
One 16-year-old boy tossed a knife under a nearby car — but officers recovered the weapon and arrested him on the spot.
Strong Police Message to Local Youth
Inspector Lee Barnes of the Territorial Support Group said: “After recent incidents of youngsters recklessly playing with fireworks around Canada Water, the community reached out to the Met. This dangerous behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“Our TSG unit was sent in to back local officers and show a strong policing presence. This arrest is a direct result of those patrols. I’m pleased a potentially lethal knife has been taken off the streets.
“We’ll continue working closely with Rotherhithe residents to take tough action against anyone carrying weapons or causing harm to the community.”
Ongoing Investigation
The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He was taken to a south London police station and has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
