Man Bashes Cop After Crashing Car Into Central Reservation
Police were called to a crash on Wednesday evening after a car smashed into a central reservation just after 5pm. Officers tracked the suspect to Gin Close Way, Awsworth, where they found a man beside a vehicle.
Trouble for Officers as Suspect Turns Violent
What started as a routine stop quickly exploded. The 53-year-old man got aggressive, shoving and punching a police officer. He even trapped an officer’s hand in a bid to avoid arrest.
Weapon Found and Arrest Made
Once the situation was under control, cops searched the man and found a weapon. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of an offensive weapon in public, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
Sergeant Paul Crofts said: “Thankfully no one was injured in the collision and the officer received no serious or lasting damage. But being assaulted will never be tolerated – we will always take robust action.
“Our officers wear their uniform to protect the public and keep communities safe – being assaulted is not part of their job. Anyone caught driving over the legal alcohol or drug limit can expect to be caught because the consequences are devastating.”
