Protected Red Kite Shot on Lochindorb Estate
Police are hunting culprits who shot a rare red kite on the Lochindorb Estate in Grantown-on-Spey. The shocking incident happened around 11.15 a.m. on Monday, 27 March.
Brave Rescue Ends in Heartbreaking Euthanasia
Thanks to the swift action of the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), the injured bird was rescued. Sadly, its wounds were too severe, and vets had to euthanise the red kite.
Police Plea: Speak Up If You Saw Anything
Community Police Inspector Craig Johnstone hit out at the illegal shooting. “The red kite is a protected species, and it is illegal to kill them under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981,” he said.
Johnstone added: “If you were out walking on Monday or saw any quad bikes or off-road vehicles near Lochindorb, please get in touch. Even the smallest scrap of information could crack this case.”
